A preview of Watson’s new commercial for Lancôme. Wearing a black biker jacket, peach chiffon strapless dress, and peep-toe booties, Watson lit up the streets of Paris with her charm.
This past Sunday, February 27th, honored the best films of 2010 at the 83rd Academy Awards ceremony. However, films were not the only focus of the night. It was all about who the winners, and even the losers, were wearing to the event. Shades of red owned the red carpet this year. Sandra Bullock chose to wear a vibrant, strapless red Vera Wang gown while presenter Anne Hathaway went with a more vintage-styled, dramatic red gown from Valentino. For Hathaway, this was not her “one and only” dress so to speak. She changed into at least five different outfits throughout the show. Reese Witherspoon decided to go retro with a black and white Armani gown and a high up-do. The nude Marchesa gown worn by Halle Berry was one of my favorite looks of the night. Its soft waves and long train made her look fresh and award show ready. I think the winner for my absolute favorite look of the night would go to Mila Kunis in the lilac gown by Elie Saab. Everything from the cut of the dress combining with the draping fabric and elegant lace accents were absolutely stunning. The Neil Lane jewelry and side-swept up-do just added to the overall perfectness. And of course her signature, sultry make-up and light pink lips were a perfect compliment. Although Mila didn’t win an Academy Award, she definitely will go down in Academy Award Fashion History.
It won’t just be the U.S. that gets a slice of the Fashion’s Night Out action. As in previous years, the event will take place globally. There will be 17 countries participating in this fall’s event, starting on Sept. 6, when Russia’s Fashion’s Night Out will take place. That will be followed by Spain on Sept. 7, with Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Portugal, the U.K. and São Paulo, Brazil, all holding their events on Sept. 8, along with the U.S. Come Sept. 9, Brazil will hold another event, in Rio de Janeiro, followed by Taiwan and India on the 10th, China on the 11th and Turkey on Sept. 15.

Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue, said of the London event: “We’re delighted to draw people’s attention to the fact that fashion and retail are a hugely important and enjoyable part of [the U.K.’s] economy. Last year, we had 270 stores in central London participating, while shoppers embraced the mood in what felt like one large party,” she said. “We’re looking forward to an even bigger and brighter night later this year.”
1. Michael Kors had it right when he said white is seasonless—white isn’t just an absence of color, but can be incredibly nuanced. He once said, “If you’re confused about the different whites, go to the local paint store, they’ll sort it out.” This means that the hue can create thousands of looks. One I love is the urban city girl—think white denim in NYC with black boots, a black turtleneck, and an army green bag. But winter can also be festive (think winter whites) or resort nautical (when mixed with navy).
2. Try styling your white piece with other similarly-shaded neutrals—tans, creams, and ivories.
3. What about white on white? It’s hard to pull off the same shade of white on white unless you’re vacationing in St. Tropez . It’s just not very realistic. If you want to try this, at least break up the look—try adding a belt.
4. Make white your statement color. Nothing else should compete and everything else should be more subtle or more casual.
5. Add texture! Think fuzzy fabrications plus cork, leather and raffia details.
6. Swap your khakis for white—wear the white item exactly as you would a khaki one.

A great way to save money and work with the items in your closet is taking an outfit from day to night. For this example, I used this Tie Die Maxi from General Pants Co. as the base of the outfit and changed the items around it to dress it up or down. I think the key to taking an outfit from day to night is switching up the accessories, colors and shoes.
Accessory change: Silver and gold can both be fancy or casual depending on how your dress them. I find it that if I have a new set of jewelry on at night than I did during the day I feel more dressed up already. Throw on a little more jewelry at night to step up your look and keep it simpler during the day.
Shoe change: For the day, a pair of gladiators is perfect. Once nighttime comes around, throw on a pair of heels to spice things up. Shoes make a big difference in an outfit.
Outerwear: For layering in the day think denim, brighter colors, and light weight fabrics. Less is more. For night, think darker colors, leather (if it’s not too hot), heavier fabrics, and sleeves. Layering at night dresses up a simple day outfit.

Emma Watson attracted a crowd of people on the streets of Paris Tuesday night. The Harry Potter actress was in the City of Lights filming her commercial for Lancôme with Mario Testino. Lancôme recently signed the actress as its latest brand ambassador, which was confirmed in a report done by Women’s Wear Daily in the February 15th issue. Watson joins Julia Roberts, Penélope Cruz and Kate Winslet as brand ambassadors for the cosmetics company and her campaigns are already beginning to have a younger, fresher feel to them. Emma’s wardrobe for the commercial, so far, consists of white lace shorts, a black tie, jacket and fedora. This particular scene was shot at a local Parisian shop. Youcef Nabi, president of Lancôme International, is thrilled to have Watson as the new face of Lancôme. He said, “Thanks to her charm, romanticism and her incredible modernity, Emma Watson has become the icon of her generation. We are delighted by this new collaboration with Emma, who brings a fresh spirit to Lancôme.” Before formally announcing the new cosmetic deal, Watson tweeted out little clues to keep her fans guessing and on edge. A few days later, she finally confirmed the project by tweeting, “It starts with an L and ends with an E. I’m sure you have guessed the new face of Lancôme is me!”
For all of you Blake Lively fans, and better yet, Chanel fanatics, the time has come! The first image fromBlake Lively’s Chanel Mademoiselle handbag campaign is finally out! More photographs from the line are set to premier this week and will run through June. Lively is the brand’s new official ambassador and loved by Karl Lagerfeld, who is the head designer and creative director for the fashion house Chanel. Although there have been many other famous faces that have represented Chanel, Lively seems to be getting the royal treatment from Lagerfeld. Just last Wednesday night, Chanel held a small, intimate dinner in New York City in Lively’s honor.
How did Lively get this incredible opportunity you ask? “I had other opportunities and I would say, ‘Thank you so much, but I am holding out for Chanel,’” Lively says. “That’s who I want to be the face of. And people would say, ‘Well, that’s unrealistic, they only hire Europeans,’ and I said: ‘Well, how great. I’ll be the first then.’”
As for all the Vogue attention she’s had — three covers, including one on a best-dressed special edition magazine in January — Vogue style director Alexander Kotur says it all started when the actress wore a blue Versace gown— slit up the thigh, with a revealing neckline — to the Costume Institute Gala two years ago. “We all just kind of jumped on her. When she came to the Met in that Versace we thought: ‘Who? What? Who’s this?’ She walked up those steps and she had confidence and she wore that dress like nobody else. That was when it all started.”
